it took a night to BELIEVE
It took a night to believe is a high-intensity contemporary dance duet that transforms the space into a site for a raw psychological ritual. Inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of
the “Shadow” the repressed, hidden aspects of our personality—the piece explores what happens when we let our darker impulses surface.
Built on a framework of high-energy structured improvisation, the performance bypasses the “judgmental” and the inner critic.
Operating at a consistently high muscle tone with rapid, urgent pacing, the dancers navigate intense physical states of
resistance, surrender, mourning, and rage. The relationship between the performers unfolds through relentless physical tasks, pushing them into a genuine state of trance where critical thinking drops and the movement becomes completely urgent.
Driven by a relentless, repetitive soundscape of tribal drumming and industrial techno, the performance uses Auditory
Driving to physically sync with the brainwaves of both the performers and the surrounding crowd.
Dancers - Mia Evian and Siyee Li
